Day 1

Day1
I made the best veggie smoothie. Not a green fruity smoothie a all veggie smoothie think V8
I got this recipe when I took a cooking class Michelle that runs the green kale and yams website. She is a gluten free/dairy free/vegitarian who has a ton of information and excellent recipes. I use many of them weekly.

A Basic Guide to a Vegetable ONLY Drink
Makes 2 servings – or about 4 cups

INGREDIENTS:

Roughly blend, measuring after each blend:
1 cup water
½ cup greens of choice blended

Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until no texture:
1 medium to small carrot
3 small tomatoes (2 medium or 1 very Large)
a small wedge of onion (about ½ inch thick – be careful not too much!  Sweet onion)
½ cup of other vegetable of choice

Blend until smooth:
1/8 teaspoon salt or to taste
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1-2 cups ice

GREENS CHOICES: kale, chard, collards, spinach, or beet greens
Hints:    Choose one green to use at a time.  Do NOT mix the same kinds of greens day after day!
Important!!  You must rotate your greens!
Use a different green about every 4 days.
Measure greens after they have been blended.

OTHER VEGETABLES CHOICES: beat, carrot, cucumber, celery, a bit of fresh parsley, or raw asparagus
Hints:    You really can add any vegetable you want, experiment if you want and learn as you go.
Important!!  You must rotate your greens! Do NOT mix the same kinds of greens day after day!

DIRECTIONS:
1.  Add water to blender until it reaches the ½-cup mark on blender.
2.  Loosely add greens and/or vegetables in blender and blend until vegetables roughly chopped.
3.  Look at blender measures to see if you have 1 cup of greens, liquid should reach to the 1 ½-cup mark.
4.  If not at 1 ½-cup mark yet, keep adding greens and then lightly blend until you reach the 1 ½-cup mark  on blender.
5.  Add carrot, tomato, onion, and about ½ cup of vegetable of choice to blender.
6.  Blend 1-2 minutes on high or until very smooth and consistent in color and there is no texture.
7.  Add salt, extra virgin olive oil and ice and blend until smooth.
8.  Serve immediately!

This is a guide to make a fruitless green drink that works for me.
Find what you like best and remember variety is good.
For more mild drink add more tomato and a bit more salt.
Take notes and try a variety of mixes!
